Efforts to Combat Homelessness
For many Americans, a home is a given – it’s a safe place to sleep at night and where memories for generations are created. But, for thousands of families in Massachusetts, a home is out of reach. According to Massachusetts Coalition for the Homelessness (http://mahomeless.org/about-us/basic-facts), “As of June 17, 2016, there were 3,811 families with children and pregnant women in Massachusetts’ Emergency Assistance (EA) shelter program. 485 of these families with children were being sheltered in motels. This number does not count those families who are doubled up, living in unsafe conditions, or sleeping in their cars.” In an effort to combat this growing challenge, Greater Boston Real Estate and Gentle Giant Moving Company have collaborated via its annual furniture drive to assist families transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
